The Rescue Diver course is one of the most challenging and rewarding scuba diving courses. It prepares you to anticipate, prevent, and manage problems and emergencies, both for yourself and for other divers. While many Rescue Diver courses consist of 3 or 4 open water dives, some may include additional sessions, for a total of 5 dives, allowing for more in-depth practice.
Here is a general description of the Rescue Diver course with 5 dives.
The Rescue Diver course aims to develop your skills in accident prevention and emergency management. You will learn to:
Recognize and manage stress in divers.
Intervene in cases of panic or distress in a diver.
Manage minor and major emergencies.
Perform self-rescues.
Implement procedures for searching for missing divers.
Assist an unconscious diver on the surface and underwater.
Administer first aid and emergency oxygen.
Develop a diving emergency plan.
Before starting the Rescue Diver course, you must generally:
Be certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver and have completed an underwater orientation dive.
Have completed first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training within the last 24 months (e.g., the Emergency First Response (EFR) course). If not, this training is often integrated into or offered before the start of the Rescue course.
Be at least 12 years old (with restrictions for Junior Rescue Divers).
The course generally takes place over several days and combines theory, confined water exercises (pool or sheltered area), and open water scenarios (ocean, lake).
This section can be completed online (eLearning) before the practical course, or in a classroom setting with your instructor. It covers:
Rescue psychology.
Recognizing stress in divers.
Managing accidents and emergencies.
Equipment problems.
Emergency procedures and rescue equipment.
Diving physiology and pressure-related injuries.
These sessions allow you to master basic techniques in a controlled environment:
Self-rescue: Managing cramps, equipment problems, and running out of air. Recognition and Assistance: Identifying and assisting a diver in distress (tired, panicked) on the surface and underwater.
Emergency Procedures: Rapid response to minor problems.
Emergency Equipment Management: Use of signal floats, first aid kits, emergency oxygen.
This is where you apply and combine the skills learned in realistic scenarios. If a course includes 5 dives, the schedule might look something like this:
Managing a fatigued diver on the surface.
Assisting a panicked diver on the surface.
Managing a diver’s cramps underwater.
Recovering lost items (e.g., mask, regulator).
Learning different underwater search patterns (spiral, U, etc.) with the aid of a compass.
Simulation of a search for a “missing” diver.
Techniques for ascent and transporting an unconscious diver underwater.
Ascent of an unconscious diver from the bottom.
Application of surface rescue breathing techniques during transport.
Methods for extricating an unconscious diver from the water.
Diving accident scenario where you must manage the scene, administer first aid, call for help, and transport the victim.
Use of emergency oxygen and completion of accident reports.
Often, this fifth dive is a final assessment where you must manage a complex emergency situation from start to finish, applying all the skills you have learned.
Alternatively, it can be used to reinforce specific skills or introduce a more advanced scenario (e.g., multiple victims, environmental management).
This course is often described by divers as the most demanding but also the most rewarding.

Learn how to use an oxygen analyzer to personally check the oxygen percentage in your diving tank before each dive–a crucial step for your safety.
Discover how to plan your dives using Nitrox dive tables or your enriched air dive computer.
Familiarize yourself with equipment considerations and Nitrox tank marking procedures.
A theoretical knowledge development session (online or in-person).

Dive safely with Nitrox mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen (according to the certification body’s standards).
Enjoy longer bottom times and potentially shorter surface intervals.
Reduce the feeling of fatigue often experienced after several dives on air.

We’ve noticed that when training along a rope, students are less comfortable on the day they no longer have that rope, which is why we prefer other techniques to develop their abilities. We are against competition, we prefer to develop the recreational side of freediving and we train where there are lots of corals and lots of fish to observe.
Introduction on a completely private day (1 student for 1 instructor) with relaxation, breathing, safety, immersion techniques and several dives on sites full of corals and fish starting at €139
Level 1 over 2 days to be comfortable at over 10m, starting at €240
